30 Day Writing Challenge: A Place I Would Live But Have Never Visited

A Place I Would Live But Have Never Visited

I don't know if I'm adventurous enough to decide to live in a country I've never visited. If I couldn't do that with college, who's to say I would do that with my life? It's hard, because while I know a little bit about the political and human rights situations in other countries, I don't know a lot about their lifestyles. I've seen pictures; just google image search any place and you might fall in love with it. But those pictures don't show the whole story. I'd like to think that I would live in some Spanish speaking country, but I don't know enough about them to say I would live there. I'd like to think that I've seen the beauty of various places through Google images, but those images could be deceiving, hiding some of the worst injustices and human rights violations. If I had to choose, however, I would probably choose either a Scandinavian country or a Latin American country. Scandinavian countries tend to have a happy people, more socialist and equitable policies, and generally seem to care about their people. That's about the extent of my knowledge. Latin American countries, on the other hand, have a extremely rich cultures and I find their variations of Spanish, Portuguese, and other languages absolutely beautiful. If I would have written this prior to study abroad, I would have said Costa Rica, based on its position as a less severe human rights violator and its label as one of the happiest countries in the world. I would live anywhere where citizens were respected and had an equitable shot at success, in whatever the definition means to them. It's hard to say with such little information. But these are all assumptions, with no evidence to support my decision. For me to make a decision, I need that evidence, the smaller pictures within the larger, generalized one. That's just how I roll.
